Operation Student Safety On the Move (OSSOM) is a youth leadership program which promotes safe and healthy communities. OSSOM creates an opportunity for youth to take a leadership role in prevention. While other prevention programs are adult driven, OSSOM is youth driven. Our youth design programs, presentations and activities for their peers to promote safe, healthy and legal behaviors.  Our youth are learning leadership skills by being leaders in their school and community.

OSSOM began in 1984 as an Oregon youth traffic safety project which addressed teen drinking and driving issues through peer leadership. Over the years OSSOM's focus expanded due to the leadership of our youth members who wanted to take on other
dangers their peers were facing. Operation Student Safety On the Move (OSSOM) puts youth in the driver's seat when it comes to prevention messages in their school. Our students design programs on any topic where students can choose between safe, healthy and legal and not.

Topics in the past have included underage drinking, driving safety, teen suicide, dating violence, illegal drug use, illegal use of pharmaceutical drugs and many more. Basically if something is putting youth at risk OSSOM students are empowered to design programs to promote healthy alternatives and educate their peers on the dangers of that behavior.

OSSOM has been a leader in youth-led prevention for 25 years and has impacted more than half a million students in that time.

Our PURPOSE is empowering youth leadership to promote safe and
healthy communities.

Our VISION is youth promoting safe and healthy communities through powerful leadership, relationships and technology.

Our MISSION is to educate, train and support youth to be leaders in their communities by promoting safe, healthy and legal decisions.

Our GOAL is to build OSSOM one community at a time, as a self-sustaining and self-generating youth-led prevention organization.
